HEALTH
We all want the perfect child - one who never gets sick. If yours does have a condition, here are some tips:
- Don't freak out, cry or ask "Why". It happened, now you have to deal with it.
- Thinking “If Only”….(If I had done this, or if I had done that) will drive you nuts. Don’t do it.
- Take a notebook to doctor's visits, you won't remember everything they say.
- Write down your questions in your notebook. That way you won’t forget to ask a question.
- One of you be in charge of medication. That eliminates the chance of double dosing or skipping a dose.
- If he's on more than one drug or has multiple doses, keep a chart so you know when and what you gave him.
- If you have to go to the emergency room, have a list of all his current medications and doses - if possible, bring the prescription bottles with you.
- Don't treat him like a sick kid or baby. If you treat them like sick kids, they will start acting like sick kids.
- Research your child’s condition. Knowledge is power.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for second opinions. Doctors don’t know
everything. - You know your child better than anyone, trust your instincts.
