Short List:
-
Passports in order -
Travel docs - (see below) -
Copies of all documents in two bags -
Email all documents to yourself -
Learn Please and Thank You - in their language
Detail:
Make sure your passports are up to date.
If taking your kids, without their dad on the flight, you have to get a notarized letter from him stating that you have permission to take them out of the country. If you have sole custody – bring a copy of the court order. You might not need it, but it will ruin your trip if you don’t have it.
Have copies of all travel documents – passports, itinerary, permission slip, etc. in a separate location. E-mail copies of everything to myself… just in case.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Use common sense – you are in a foreign country – they probably speak a foreign language. Do not get mad at them when they don’t understand you or don’t speak English. Your in there country – you should know their language. Learning "please" and "thank you" in their language goes a long way. Merci.
