TRAVEL
Most kids love to learn about new things, but can find museums boring. To add interest, read a book or watch a show about what is in the museum. For example, if you are going to the La Brea Tar Pits, watch Ice Age first.
Tips for specific museums are coming and will be listed below. Please send me your pointers!!!
General
- Plan ahead. Find out the hours of operation on your intended day.
- Check for any special offers or discounts - fast food restaurants, soda cans, AAA, etc.
- Check the weather.
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Do not wear shoes that have not been broken in, if you do, bring blister Band-aids.
- Bring wet wipes to clean the kids and tables before/after you eat.
- Buy/Print tickets on-line. Saves time and sometimes money.
- If buying tickets at park - look for self-serve kiosks. Usually a credit card/debit card is needed. The lines are usually much shorter.
- Bring cash. ATMs don’t always work and sometimes charge an extra fee.
- If the museum allows, bring your own water bottles. They fit nicely under strollers. I also bring a brick of juice boxes.
- Bring snacks.
- Kids (and parents) can get tired and cranky. Taking a break can restore everyone’s mood.
- Check camera battery and disk storage. Always bring an extra battery and storage card.
- Make sure phones or walkie-talkies are charged.
- Depending on age of your child, do one or more of the following:
- Have them memorize your cell number
- Be sure that their cell phone is charged
- Be sure that they know their last name and your first name
- Know where to meet, just in case
- Write your name and cell # with a sharpie on the back of their hand or arm
